DR. ANDREOLI's COMMENTS

H1 N1 (Swine Flu)

As of August 27, 2009, there have been 8,843 hospitalized cases of Swine Flu in all of the United States, and 694 in Illnois. There have been 556 deaths in the U.S., in patients who were debilitated because of other pre-existing illnesses.

My personal opinion is that this influenza endemic will not become severe in normal healthy people. We should continue to monitor the spread, and follow advice from the Illinois Dept. of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as described on the previous page. Do not panic.

Other advice which I can offer to enhance our immune systems is as follows:

* As indicated, use certain supplements such as extra vitamin C, astragalus, echinacea, spirulina, garlic, and St John's Wort (if not on anticoagulants like Coumadin), which act as immune modulators.

* Take viable Probiotics.

* Get more routine physical activity to increase natural killer cell activity.

* Have a diverse dietary intake of fruits and vegetables with minimal animal protein.

* Eliminate from your diet all foods containing artificial colors and flavorings.

* Get extra sleep.

* Manage and reduce your stress.

* Drink plenty of clean water.

* Eliminate your intake of refined sugars.

* Complete avoidance of all tobacco products.

* Eliminate food and environmental allergies whenever possible.

* Use of prescription medications only when necessary.
